Beginners Guide to the three A's of Hubpages. Using Adsense, Adwords, and Amazon to make money online

My Experience

I am writing this for my daughter Kirsten who is just beginning to write on hubpages. I hope that I am able to help her by letting her know some of the things that I have learned since I began my own hubpages journey over a year ago. My Hubpages experience began when I started trying to discover ways to make money at home by writing online. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or what to look for, but I knew that other people were successfully making an online income and I was determined to find out how they were doing it.

As of today I have made approximately $1600. Granted it's not a huge amount of money considering the amount of time that I have put in doing research and writing, but it's enough to keep me pushing forward. I've watched my adsense income go from nothing to consistently making something each day, and my Amazon sales have increased enough to sufficiently arouse my interest in branching out and writing product specific hubs.

Kirsten I hope you read this hub, I hope you learn from it, and I hope that next year at this time you are writing your own story and telling others about your fabulous, success story.

Time

The first thing you need to realize when you begin your hubpages journey is that it takes time. It takes time to write quality content that other people want to read and find useful. It takes time to promote your hubs so that potential readers can find them amist  the billions of other pages on the internet. It takes time to edit and rework your hubs when you find that they are just not up to par, and it takes time to realize an income from your labors. If you mistakenly think (like I did) that money is going to roll in after you put your first amazing prose live then stop now and find something else to do with your time. The reality is that IF you do the necessary research and create high quality hubs that appeal to readers, and IF you spend the time you need to create quality backlinks and choose quality keywords that will drive traffic to your hubs, and IF you keep writing even when it looks like no one is reading, then you may eventually find a following and possibly earn some money.

Step 1: Write Hubs That People Want To Read

A great way to learn more about what people want to read is to look at what the hot trends are and what people are searching for. Google Trends is a great place to start. You can use the site to see what people are searching for on any given day. The information is current is and updated regularily. Yahoo has their own trending site called Yahoo Buzz. On Buzz you can see the days top overall 20 internet searches and how they have either risen or fallen during the day. You can also search specific subjects like the top 20 movies, the top 20 actors, and the top 20 video games. You can even search to see what has the highest decline in searches.

So just remember if you have an itch to write but don't know what to write about and need a little inspiration, check out Google Trends or Yahoo Buzz, the sites are guaranteed to get your creative juices flowing.

Step 2: Using Adwords to Create a Great Title

Now that you know what people are searching for and what you want to write about it's time to come up with a great title. Start with Google Adwords. Google Adwords works by giving you the most popular searches terms for words or phrases. Let's say you decide you want to write about books. To use Adwords effectively follow these steps:

  • Log onto the adwords site and click on the Opportunities button on the top of the page.
  • Choose Keyword Tool on the left side of the page.
  • Input the word books in the search box.
  • Click on advanced options under the search box.
  • Choose United States, then on filter keywords choose Local Monthly Searches > 1000
  • Add another filter and choose Local Monthly Searches < 1000000
  • Add another filter and chose Estimated Avg. CPC > .75

You just told adwords to give you all the keywords that have been searched more than 1000 times but less than 1000000 that have an average cost per click of 75 cents. You will get a good list of search terms to use in your title. To narrow your keywords down even more choose the word "exact" on the left hand side of the screen. This will limit your keywords to terms that have the exact word "books" in them.

When you create the title for your hub use the keywords that were yielded by your search. Be sure to use those keywords throughout your hub as well so that when Google sends it's spiders to crawl your writing they will find them which should result in your hub getting a higher position in the Google search engine.

Step 3: Adding Amazon

Ok, now you have come up with a super title for your hub, written several solid capsules of information, what's next? The answer is adding an Amazon capsule where you can allow readers the opportunity to choose to purchase items related to your hub. To do this effectively simply add an Amazon capsule then fill it with the specific products you choose.

To find your products open the Amazon website on a different page, search your specific words or terms and copy the link to the items of your choice by right clicking on it. Switch back to your Hubpages page and paste the link in the your Amazon capsule. Put an Amazon capsule toward the beginning of your hub and at the end so that readers have ample opportunities to buy products. Remember that when someone initially clicks on your hub they may have no intention of purchasing anything-but after they read your fabulous review and are convinced they have to have the product you wrote about you want to make things convenient for them and have a capsule available-before they change their mind!!

Well that's about it for now. I hope you learned something and I hope you put what you learned into action.  I wish you much success.

You are so welcome. Those are the steps that I take-I am sure that other people do it differently but honestly my traffic increased when I began using that system. Like I said earlier-I just started on hubpages last year and I had to learn all of the things I know on my own. I will be posting another hub tonight about backlinks so come back and see me. Good luck.

Thanks toknowinfo. I have been teaching first grade for years so I am used to having to break information down into easily understandable chunks. I absolutely believe in the KISS philosophy of teaching: Keep It Simple Silly!!
