My Son

Meet my son Rhett. He is an average 17 year old boy: loves his truck, chases girls, knows everything, and is 10 feet tall and bulletproof. One thing that makes my son different from all of his friends is that he raced motocross for 12 years. He began when he was only 4 on a little bitty ktm 50. He grew and progressed until he was riding huge 250cc and 450cc motocross bikes. He had a lot of success in his motocross career, he was the 2008 Oklahoma State 125/250f B class champion, 2008 Oklahoma State Open Outlaw 2nd place finisher, and 2008 Oklahoma State School Boy 3rd place finisher. Rhett hung up his motocross helmet in 2009 to focus on his high school academics. He wants to attend Oklahoma State University in the fall 2011 and knows that in order for that to happen he needs to concentrate on his studies.

During my son's 12 years in motocross we spent TONS of money on racing accessories. Helmets, boots, jerseys, pants, goggles, and gloves are just some of the items that we purchased over the years and as a result we learned the best places to get deals on motocross gear, parts, and accessories. I wanted to write this hub to share what we learned with others in the sport.

Dennis Kirk

One of the biggest motocross suppliers in the US is Dennis Kirk. They have a huge collection of motocross gear, casual gear, safety accessories, helmets, motorcycle parts, and graphics as well as a special section with Harley Davidson Motorcycle parts and accessories. They also stock street bike gear and parts, snowmobile gear and parts, watersport gear and parts, and loads of accessories. They have the newest products on the market and you can get some pretty sweet deals at their outlet store. DK also lists scratch and dent items on EBAY. They match all competitors prices. On the down side you have to go in and check to make sure that they have the items you want in your size-you may think they do only to discover that your purchase is on BACK ORDER. Orders placed on weekdays are shipped the same day and shipping for orders over $100 is free. Under $100 shipping runs about 8 bucks.

Motorsport.com

We purchased a lot of gear and accessories from www.motorsport.com. They have awesome fall and spring catalogs that are chock full of everything motocross. Unlike some of the websites we dealt with, Motosports always had what we wanted in stock. If something wasn't in stock they told us immediately instead of shipping a partial order along with a "Sorry We're Out" note. The site has terrific specials on pants, jersey, and glove combos. If you visit them now you will find some excellent deals on closeout 2010 gear. Another perk for this site-shipping on orders of $99 or more is free.

Rocky Mountain ATV MC

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com is another great place to get motocross gear and accessories. Check back with this site often as they update their clearance items regularly.

They usually have gear in previous years styles which can save you major bucks. This site also has good deals on casual gear; the t-shirts, shorts, pants, hats, etc that the kids who ride motocross want to wear when they're not on the track racing.

The downside to using this site is that they don't always have the newest gear in stock and their selection is pretty limited. You might have to wait to get some of your items on backorder.

Locomx and Motocross Giant

Two sites that are relatively new to the gear market are http://www.locomx.com and http://www.motocrossgiant.com. Locomx sells motocross gear and apparel exclusively. You won't find bike parts here. They also have a special section for items that are GUARANTEED TO BE IN STOCK which will save you time and headaches when you have your heart set on that one specific item. Trust me you'll be glad they have this section-especially when you need something for an upcoming race.

Motocross Giant has a little bit of everything. You can find motocross gear, street gear, atv gear, motorcycle parts and accessories, sun glasses, casual wear, and just about anything else you are looking for. You can find brands like: fox, nofear, oneil. moose, alpine star, sixsixone, oakley, fly, shift, answer, shoei, and many many more. Check out their ABOUT US section to find out about the history of the company.

BTO Sports

At BTOsports.com you can find the best deals on gear anywhere.  The value of their combo packages, where you get a jersey, pants, and gloves can't be beat.  The sales people are awesome and unlike some other companies you can call in and talk to a live person.  You can order over the phone which is great because your salesperson can check stock to be sure that they have exactly what you need.  If you are willing to drop back and get last years gear you can save about 50%.  Shipping over $100 is free.  Check them out if you want to save some cash.

I'm not in the market for any gear, all of my sons are grown and gone, but I enjoyed reading about your son and seeing the pictures of him. He looks like a son to be proud of.

He really is a good kid-a typical teenager, but a good kid. Thanks so much for reading.
